Zaha Hadid x CITCO “Valle” Black Granite Shelf

Granite is not limited to flat surfaces such as countertops, it can be used for all sorts. We found this awesome post showcasing a shelf designed by legendary architect Zaha Hadid.

After linking for last year’s brilliant sculptural “Tau” vase series, the late architectural mastermind Dame Zaha Mohammad Hadid and Italian stone specialists CITCO partnered once again for a collaborative project that carries on the Iraqi-born British architect’s legacy with a special furniture piece. Fashioned entirely from granito nero assoluto (or fine black granite), the “Valle” shelving system is the fruits of Dame Hadid’s brilliant eye for design coupled with CITCO’s high quality stones. The piece is made up of four separate shelves that can be mounted as unified configurations as well as stand-alone pieces, each featuring the stone’s naturally striking pitch-black color that offers a sense of solidity to the design’s fluid shapes. The “Valle” shelf is one of Dame Hadid’s last projects before her untimely passing last month, and is currently on display at the Salone del Mobile in Milan.
